I am not a fan of Google.
There, I said it. Controversial in this day and age, but true!
Why?
Coz it's robbing us of social interaction.
I don't want a bloody search engine to tell me something my friend knows the answer to, I don't want it giving me a recipe from a website that came up simply coz that site paid the most to get highest on the list of results!
Arrrrr! I think it's taking away the friendliness of friendship.
I had a particular friend, who was left of the middle in a lot of things she did in her life, so of course a lot of things she talked about were truly fascinating to others. Yet when asked about something she had touched on, the popular response would be "Google is your friend people"........in other words, go and get the answer online, rather then her sharing her own personal knowledge. Crazy, isn't it? Why don't people want to share their learning's with others?
When I asked through a facebook status for favourite biscuit recipes, nobody shared....then my sister suggested googling recipes. Of course I could, I would have done that in the first place, had I not specifically wanted my mates favourite recipes! The recipes you've already used, you found easy to follow, and your own children loved the results.
Had I wanted to make just any biscuits, there's were google comes in. See, I have a lovely collection of cook books, and I actually do have a biscuit recipe that makes delicious bikkies, but that was my fave recipe before Jack came along, and is a little to involved for making with a tot. So all I wanted was a simple fun recipe that Jack and I could make together, coz he'd been raiding the kitchen drawers yesterday and wearing some biscuit cutters as bangles, and I thought it'd be great to show him what this bangles really could do!
I don't understand why people don't want to share their knowledge anymore, why let your knowledge be lost to the websites with the highest listing, that may not even be any good in answering what we were looking for?
I guess I am a little sick of internet technologies in general this week.....facebook especially. Why do we find out things only through our "friends" statuses now? Things that you would think they could have extended you the courtesy to tell you first hand, at least in an sms or private message addressed to you, not just included you in the announcement to the whole world. Especially the way facebook has been lately, in that you don't seem to get all the statuses listed on your feed, so you may miss some major announcements in friends lives coz the status didn't show up. Statuses such as pregnancy announcements, birth announcements, major purchases(such as a house), changes in activities you were involved in.....if these are "real life" friends, it's a shite way to find out....especially if you read through the responses and see how many nobodies got to find out these important announcements before you did, simply coz they were online when you weren't .
Some days I think I'd like to disappear off facebook, but then, I wouldn't know anything about my friends anymore! lol

I agree with you! I refuse to even open a Facebook account, but I do have a blog :) I think another part of the problem is that people don't cook from scratch so much anymore, so they may not have had any recipes to share.
Well I don't know if this is good or bad, but I have a biscuit recipe to share with you that I initially got off the internet and am linking to here:

It's my favorite and i've used it hundreds of times, so it's half internet and half me. Is that good? For a change, I also make these and I like them even more than the plain:

I always get raves! You HAVE to try them.
oOo thanks!! I'll be sure to try them ;)
Doesn't matter that you found them online, you've tried them and know they're good. Muchly appreciated!
I agree, but I also disagree, LOL.
I think it is rude to say 'google it', I also think technology is having a hand in killing what friendships used to be about (ringing up for a chat, catching up for a chat etc).
But...
As someone whose struggles in social situations (especially with crowds of people and/or new people), who lives sort of isolated, who is a bit weird and whose friends (well the majority and the ones I put the most effort into keeping in touch with anyway LOL) live miles away, I LOVE technology.
I HATE talking on the phone, not just because I suck at small talk and get anxious about all sorts of bullshit, but also because I am continuously followed by a tribe of screaming children (who were of course perfectly fine before I got on the phone and will be as soon as I hang up).
Lame maybe, but I like that email/facebook/msn/text msgs give me the chances to 'think before I speak'.
I can blabber on and on here like there's no tomorrow, but meet me in person and I am painfully quiet LOL.
As for the bikkies, I very nearly replied, however, the recipe i have used I don't love at all...so didn't want to pass it on for that reason. I am yet to find a recipe for bikkies that you can use cutters with that I like. I tend to favour yo-yos instead because they are quick.
Ummm I also hate finding things out via facebook, quite happy to find out via msn, text msg, facebook pm or email though, because at least they are actually to me, unlike a status update...
Gee I never shut up huh...
I like looking on taste.com.au for recipes too btw, I like that users can rate and review recipes they have made, so you can get a really good idea for whether a recipe is any good or not.
HTH :)
Oh I totally get you there apwool....in real life, I see myself as a bit socially retarded(get anxious trying to break into convo's in groups, end up just being left out coz I miss the moment I had something to contribute to), I think I come across better over the net for that reason.
And google sure has it's place, I just get annoyed when you know someone has the answer and can't be stuffed sharing ;)
Thanks for the tip on the taste website, that'll be a good one to check out seen people give feedback, cheers
