I really enjoy nursery rhymes and songs. Jack's favourites are "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", especially the "diamond" part which he copies, and "This Little Piggy", which his Nanny makes up her own versions of ;)
Nanny doctoring this little rhyme started when she mused over the question one day of what vegetarian people's piggy's eat....do they still eat roast beef?
As the original rhyme goes...
This little piggy went to market.
This little piggy stayed home .
This little piggy had roast beef.
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went...
wee.... wee.... wee....
All the way home.
Once Nanny started changing the food the 3rd piggy ate, the place the 1st piggy visited also changed, and now it is a bit of extra fun for the older grand kids to pick where the piggy goes and what the piggy eats as she does it to the younger grandkids....Jack especially!
My favourite version is....
This little piggy went to Franga.
This little piggy stayed home.
This little piggy had fairy floss.
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went...
wee.... wee... wee...
All the way home.
I also recall my paternal grandparents making their own version of "Rock-a-bye Baby".
I wish so much that I could recall it word for word.
My Papa passed away when I was around 18mths old, and I'm not exactly sure what of this song I am remembering because it was told to me when I was older, or that I actually do have vague early life memories of it being sung in the moment!
The original of this song is...
Rock-a-bye baby on the tree top,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,
I can't think of how my grandparents sang it, but it had lines in it about Papa rocking in his rocking chair and Grandma knitting by the fire and something about Nanny(my great grandma).
Do you have your own unique versions of nursery rhymes in your family?
