After an interesting chat about hair recently, I've decided to take the plunge and ditch the shampoo and conditioner! Eeewwww? Well apparently it is great for your hair!
While chatting about hair, one person mentioned how she went a long period of time with no hair washing and if you can stick out the 6-ish week time frame that your hair will chuck a wobbly and look a bit average and perhaps greasy, she claims her hair looked so great that others suffered "hair envy" ;)
She said that you still get your hair wet in the shower, rinse it through, but skip any cleaning products. After a period of time your scalp regains it's natural pH balance and can regulate itself.
It especially impressed me and caught my attention when she mentioned suffering from psoriasis through the scalp, as do I, and doing this practically cleared it all up! Wow, sensational! My psoriasis has been with me since primary school and there has barely been a day go by where I haven't just wanted to sit down and give my head a damn good scratch to sooth the constant insane itchiness. Yep, I've tried all the charcoal and what not treatment, nothing has helped.
So, Friday was actually the last time I washed my hair....I'm pretty irregular at washing it anyway....and today would have been the next wash, but instead I simply rinsed it.
It already pleases me!
Firstly, while it doesn't yet have a horribly greasy look, it does look different from washing it, in a good way though, no "fly away" or "fluffy" look ;)
As the days gone by, I've also noticed my scalp isn't as itchy as it would normally be on a wash day. Making me think that washing the psoriasis drys it out, therefore making it tighter feeling on my scalp and itchy.
The test of course will be lifestyle conditions. I didn't think to ask at the time, but the woman who spoke of this didn't seem to dye her hair. She also said the thing that stopped her run of no shampoo was an open fire place making her hair smokey smelling and she couldn't get rid of the smell without washing.
I dye my hair, I swim in chlorinated water and in winter we will have our wood fire burning.
Hmmmm......stay tuned for updates ;)

I've seen somebody do this on tv, and it looks well worth it - if you can stick it out for 6 weeks. I'm afraid i'm not quite brave enough to do that...
